DF+TLJ GOTY = TRU

… Aspyr will be re-releasing Dreamfall GOTY (Game of The Year) Edition in N. America soon with the original TLJ game, Dreamfall (obviously) and the Dreamfall soundtrack. :) Awesome! :)

Yup. I haven’t mentioned it before, because I didn’t know when it was going to be official, but now it is. Official, that is. So here’s yet another reason to head down to your local GameStop or Best Buy with a wad of cash to pick up a box. Not only will you be supporting a great and important cause, you’ll be getting both Dreamfall and The Longest Journey. And a soundtrack!

Awesome. Awesome, indeed.

If I didn’t already own, like, fifty copies of each game, I’d be all over this one. But I’m running out of shelf space. And they give me free copies. So I’m good.

why bother release it when we already have the Limited edition? And Dreamfall is super, but it wasn’t “game of the year”

Because: a) this is not the limited edition, and there was no limited edition in the U.S.; b) the game has all but vanished from most retail stores, and this is a great way to get it back on the shelves; c) $29.99 is pretty good value for these two games together; and d) yes, Dreamfall was nominated for many, many game of the year awards, and it won quite a few (including GameSpy’s Adventure Game of the Year).

EDIT: And The Longest Journey is out on Steam. Wheee! How come I have to find out about these things from comments posted on my own website?

even though this sounds silly, Dreamfall is MY game of the year. Of many years actually.
I already have mulitple versions of both games but the soundtrack might just make it worth buying another two :) .
    Congrats!!

Hang on, there was a Dreamfall Limited Edition in GAME the other day that had Dreamfall, the soundtrack and the artbook AND 2-disc TLJ. Is that not the standard limited edition? Or is this report just the North Americans getting something that was available in Europe already?

  5. May 2nd, 2007 at 20:11 | #5

Canada is in North America! I’ve searched so long for The Longest Journey after playing Dreamfall… and to find that it’s on Steam AND being released to shelves! Well, I’m just incredibly excited!

I’d love to buy that. Despite having two copies of the DF LE (thanks Ragnar :) ), a non-LE German version, two Dreamfall soundtracks, and both an English and Norwegian copy of TLJ – I want that too.

Hey! Use the power which the balance has brought to you! Convince local publishers round the world to follow the one and only reasonable way – releasing this set. Oh, I see. Not enough power. Well, release in Poland seems enough for me.
Honestly – I’d love to buy it. I have never played English TLJ – only localised one (while Polish Dreamfall release was bilingual). But all the shipping&handling stuff makes me shiver. This is also the reason why I still don’t have the Limited Edition.

GAH! too bad I bought each item separately already.

Bought the 2 games from amazon, and recently received the Dreamfall soundtrack by mail.

of course you guys will want me to buy this anyway…

I recently went through a streak where I bought every VHS version (not every release, but at least one release of every version – fullscreen & widescreen being counted as separate versions & obviously anything with different audio or video) of the Star Wars Trilogy. I suddenly feel the urge to obtain one of every version of The Longest Journey and Dreamfall…

Unfortunately, I don’t have the cash for it at the moment… I guess I could easily buy this version though. I think I shall. I may go the Steam route first though.

When i read the title “Game of the year”, I thought Dreamfall, in this case, was considered the-best-game-of-2006-overall, not in a single category, so that’s why I said Dreamfall wasn’t game of the year. But well, now you has explained it.

Anyway,$29.99 is way too cheap for such pack X_X (while it’s so expensive for the Limited Edition, which I’m considering buying it).
It’s great that you still look up the TLJ forums, Ragnar

    Hi Ragnar,

I read an interview with one of the Funcom people yesterday in the magazine PC Gameplay, a Belgian PC gaming magazine.

The article was about software (games) piracy and there was a large chunk that had an interview with I think… Enno Reling (Erling?) or something like that?

Actually, he sounded very level-headed and I’m glad he has a more realistic view on the topic than many in the industry!

Still, it’s too bad Funcom is only going to do online stuff from now on…

Too bad that the Game edition of Dreamfall is no longer available or at least it has been out of stock for quite some time now. I would’ve ordered that as I live in Finland, but I couldn’t order it in time.

Is this Aspyr US GOTY version going to be same in the cool white package with the art book etc.? Then I might consider getting it from the States. :)

Wow, thanks for the link to steam, I never knew about that site. I will certainly have to join because they have a couple games there that are just not available anywhere near me. :)

Hey Gyro, I thought I was the only one who had 21,000 different copies of starwars :-) .

And I already have copies of both games so unless there is something different about them I think i’ll pass. Great games as they are I can’t see buying the same product twice. Now if the had Dreamfall with a previously unreleased chapter i’d be all over it.

Well at the moment, the only versions which I own that are in my house are the fullscreen 1997 SE tapes… Every single other version is in the mail though. I all happened when I decided to cave in & buy the 2006 DVDs for the 30th Anniversary when Lucas wasn’t doing anything, but then I realized I could get so many more for the same price if I went VHS! I still don’t have a copy of the laserdisk versions, but I can live with that. They have inferior video, edited audio, and they run about 2-4% faster to fit on the disks.

The thing about The Longest Journey & Dreamfall though, is that I not only get to collect the game versions, but I get to further support the developers when I do!

Congratulations on getting out a product that deserves to be on the market… Dreamfall GOTY! Okay, it may not have won as many nominations as games like Halo 2 would, but then again, it’s a different type of medium. It’s like an interactive book… reviewers can only judge games based on gameplay mechanics and it’s impossible for them to think that a game that’s purely story driven without any guns to shoot or platforms to jump could merit anything. I, however, agree that there is too much soul-less garbage on the market and you’ve revived what I loved so much about old SNES games… a narrative to the gaming that makes it not only fun, but memorable.

TLJ series is on par with the Harry Potter series for me. It’s just your audience is a hard one to reach in a world with so little imagination or appreciation for creativity. For example, Harry Potter is a children’s phenomena. There are a lot of kids with birthdays and Christmas presents so on, so they’re all getting Harry Potter in their stockings. And kids are supposed to have imagination because… THEY’RE KIDS! The world is still a magical place for them. Meanwhile, you’ve created an ADULT fantasy in a world where adults don’t fantasize about much more then beer and tits. Or maybe a vacation from the office. They’ve tried to squeeze the imagination out of the adult world (your target audience). But even adults read Harry in secret. Not just parents… I’m 22 this July and I’ve read all 6 books. And that’s why your series is a wonderful thing for me. I respect the abstract and creative thinkers who would have the balls to come out with something like Dreamfall instead of a riff-raffy sports title or soul-less button masher. I was emotionally invested in the story in a way I haven’t been since I first played Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy back in the day. Actually, since I played the first TLJ… I was one of the few who played games like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Gabriel Knight when I was a kid. I’m one of the few people left who pretty much only plays games for the STORY. And there are so few games to play that deliver in that department now.

Wow this is a legnthy entry, but I’ve never written to you and have so much to say because I’ve been a fan for so long. All I can say is the video game medium NEEDS interactive story books for adults, even if they claim they don’t have time to be involved with frivolous (for lack of a better word) things like “imagination”. You, sir, have the biggest balls of all for creating something like Dreamfall that dared to touch your heart instead of your trigger finger. My hat goes off to you. Now if I can only get my sister to play the two games… she got me into Harry so I feel I owe her MY significant imagination experience. If you wrote the two games into novels then maybe I’d finally make some progress…

Anyway congrats. GOTY edition 2007 baby! Woo woo woo

Well, it’s out! Unfortunately, only via Amazon for us denizens of the internet as far as I can see – send a heads up if you see it anywhere else (Amazon refuses to ship it internationally except to the military forces).

EDIT: Which reminds me, I should add a linky: http://www.amazon.com/Dreamfall-Game-of-the-Year/dp/B000PM1THQ

Just picked this up today at Best Buy, and as I had anticipated, my computer is to cruddy to run Dreamfall. (Guess it’s a good thing I have that Xbox.) Good excuse for me to get a new laptop. =D
