Dreamfall 2007 AD

January 20th, 2007

I had decided a few months ago that, come January 2007, I wouldn’t be writing much about Dreamfall in this blog anymore. The post mortem would be out of the world, the sequel (regardless of status) would still be a ways off, and Dreamfall the First would have gone quietly into the dark night of bargain bins.

Well.

As most of you know, I’m still working on that first one (parts one and two are out there, and part three is on the way); the sequel thing still gets a firm “no comment” from me (although we’re definitely thinking and talking about it on a regular basis); and as for that last one? It’s actually looking pretty good. Yes, you can find copies of Dreamfall in the bargain bin – it’s what happens to most games these days – but with the recent release on Steam and a plethora of end-of-year awards and favourable mentions in top-whatever lists, interest has certainly picked up, and the game is doing quite well. Surprisingly well. I think we’re looking at another slow burning cult classic expanding over time – much like The Longest Journey before it. Thanks to you guys, Dreamfall appears to have a bright future ahead of it – and things are definitely starting to look up for the remainder of the saga.

So what does this mean for the blog? Seeing as I can’t really talk much about My Current Project quite yet (although I still have a second post about that one in the pipeline, and we’re getting closer and closer to an official unveiling), I won’t be leaving Dreamfall behind just yet. Which is something I’m quite grateful about.

In the immediate future, however, I’ll be heading far east once more – third time in as many months – this time to Beijing, China, where I’ll be spending the coming week working out of our China office. Once I’ve settled in, I’ll be posting stuff – hopefully with a bit more regularity – so stick around.

Many adventure games are now released for the Nintendo DS (lite) console, like the Phoenix Wright series or Touch detective.

I just wondered that I it would be very nice to get maybe the first
The Longest Journet out on Nintendo DS, but then, I don’t know if
you can do this i.e. from tecnical standpoint, I mean. If this was
possible, it would be so cool….

Personally I have had The Longest Journey (not dreamfall) sicnce the year 2000 or 2001 (I think). I must say that I can’t believe that I’ve waited 6-7 years before I played this game. Great and well crafted story and such.
Oh, and after also having bought my copy of Dreamfall, I fully understand what Ragnar is talking about, when he thinks that the traditional Point N Click adventure needs to change. I’m able to move so much more freely with Zoë in Dremfall than I was (or am) in The Longest Journey (the first game).

The only critique of Dremfall I really have is the controls — what is the blue band all about ???

As long as the DS is capable of 3D Graphics….

By the Way: Telltale is going to Wii, so wii can expext a Sam and Max or Ankh like Adenture someday…

I would buy TLJ and Dreamfall for Wii, even though I own them already. I would support this company to keep bringing great adventures to the world, and also to support bringing point-and-click Adventure Gaming to a great platform such as the Nintendo Wii.

It’s sold 6 million consoles already… don’t you your fair share?
