Awards season, continued

December 21st, 2006

So we’re raking in those awards, something I’m both really surprised about and extremely grateful for. In the last few days we’ve won:

· GameSpy’s PC and Xbox Adventure Game of the Year
· Best Music and Best Story – again from GameSpy
· We’re also #8 on GameSpy’s list of PC Top 10 Games of the Year – and it’s been a great year for PC gaming
· Finally, we’re #3 on their list of Xbox Top 5 Games of the Year
· Over at GameSpot, we’ve racked up an amazing number of nominations
· And we’ve currently won the award for Best Voice Acting

What a way to wrap up an already-great 2006. As for 2007? It’s off to a fantastic start already (which is pretty amazing, since we’re still in ‘06), with some cool new projects lined up and other news to share. I can’t wait to start talking about it…next year.

Now, if you haven’t already done so, go read the first two parts of the Dreamfall postmortem, and comment away!

I dare say Dreamfall was the best game I played in 2006, while Red Orchestra was both 2nd best & most well produced game I played in 2006. Admittedly I’ve already played RO in 2005 as well, & it did have several years to shape itself up to that point. Actually, I think it’s about the same as Dreamfall’s development time, plus patches.

But one thing is definitely for sure (& I’ll throw in another name while I’m here: GalCiv2) 2006 was a year for niche gaming. Especially niche PC gaming. The mainstream was indeed weaker than even 2005, but overall the year was much stronger. All the genres proclaimed to be long dead obviously were far from it, and all at once.
